Bring Health Careers Education to Your High School!

The 2019 Application for the Greater Oregon Health Professionals Learning Community & Summer Teacher Institute is NOW OPEN!

Are you a high school instructor in Eastern Oregon with a master’s degree or ample experience in a science or a health-related field? Do you want to provide your students with dual-credit curriculum to expand their horizons about careers in the healthcare industry?

Consider participating in the GO-Healthcare Professionals PLC (Professional Learning Community)! New members join a dynamic network of more than a dozen other regional high school teachers who are promoting health careers by delivering our unique, pre-built Future Health Professionals of Oregon (FHPO) curriculum in their classrooms.

How to Apply

All instructors who would like to join our PLC and offer the online FHPO curriculum are required to participate in a 3-day Summer Teacher Institute and several brief PLC check-in sessions throughout the year to make sure they are experts on the curriculum. Check out the flyer below for more details.

What is Future Health Professionals of Oregon (FHPO)?

FHPO is a two-credit SCI 116 online collegiate course designed for high school students who are interested in learning about health careers. This course also satisfies PES 131—a required course for all tracks within EOU's Physical Activity & Health Program. FHPO is delivered through Eastern Oregon University's Canvas platform, and facilitated by approved high school teachers at select Oregon schools. Students taking FHPO are exposed to contemporary topics in healthcare, complete 12 hours of healthcare job shadows (or a comparable community project), and research a multitude of health careers.

Currently, college credits cost approximately $400 per credit, depending on the school. This is an opportunity for high school students to earn two credits for only $31 each through Eastern Promise!
